Water is essential to sustaining life and is one of the most important resources we have. It is therefore essential that it must be free from any contamination. Various countries have laid stringent guidelines for testing of water quality to ensure that it is safe for consumption.

At VIMTA, we offer a comprehensive range of testing solutions for water quality analysis in accordance with different regulatory standards and guidelines as:

  • Water as per FSSAI
  • Water for food processing industry as per IS 4251
  • Drinking water as per IS 10500
  • Packaged drinking water as per IS 14543
  • Packaged natural mineral water as per IS 13428
  • Raw water (surface / ground)
  • Processed / Treated water
  • Water as per WHO
  • Water as per US EPA
  • Water as per EU regulation
  • Water as per customer specifications

Stringent testing approach for water and its ingredients to track contamination and adulteration, and ensure quality compliance and adherence to regulatory standards

It is mandatory to test potable water for virology and parasitology to ensure that it is free from contaminants and does not lead to any water-borne disease. At VIMTA, we perform testing for viruses as Entrovirus and Hepavirus, parasites as Giardia lambia and Cryptosporidiu, and range of microscopic organisms as Algae, Zooplanktons, Flagellates, and toxin producing organisms in accordance with the regulatory standards.

Bromate is normally produced as a result of ozonisation during disinfection of water or photo-activation. Though disinfectants are normally required for purification of water; their quantity beyond permissible limits may result in adverse health effects. Bromate is also likely to cause cancer. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) therefore mandates testing for Bromates and other disinfectants to ensure that it is within maximum permissible limit. At VIMTA, we perform testing for bromates and other disinfectants in accordance with regulatory standards.

The chemical analysis of water is usually done to identify the properties and chemical components of water sample along with its quantification. The primary components evaluated are pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, and presence of salinity. The estimation may also include evaluation of pesticides, contaminants and heavy metals. The analysis is usually a pre-requisite for performing further analysis related to water quality and pollution. At VIMTA, we use state of the art instrumentation to offer you an accurate chemical analysis of water.

Water may be often contaminated with disease causing and spoilage microorganisms or fecal contamination.  Routine microbiological testing of water is therefore essential for ensuring that it is safe for consumption and usage.

At VIMTA, we offer a complete range of microbiological testing for water. Our microbiological testing portfolio includes detection of various water-borne pathogens and helps in monitoring of various functional microbes.

Pesticide residue refers to the chemicals that are applied to food crops and may be a possible source of contamination for the ground water.

The use of pesticides has increased significantly over the past several decades as it increases yield of crops and makes them resistant to disease and pests. Overuse of pesticides leads to accumulation of harmful chemical residues in plant products which works their way through the food chain and becoming more concentrated as they move from one creature to another. These concentrated residues can have significant health impacts even in small amounts, and warrant the need for development of stringent regulatory standards and its compliance. Each country adopts their own regulations and standards for MRL (maximum residue limits) as the usage of pesticides varies from country to country and so do the level of food additives usage.

VIMTA has been pioneers in India for pesticide residue testing and has over three decades of experience in this field. Our method library consists of more than 700 pesticide standards to identify trace levels of these pesticides in all types of products. We employ modern technologies as triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS & LC-MS/MS) and other current analytical techniques for accurate, reliable and speedy results.

Groups of pesticide residues analysed at VIMTA include:

  • Organochlorine pesticides
  • Organophosphorous pesticides
  • Synthetic pyrethroids
  • N-methyl carbamates
  • Chlorophenoxy herbicides
  • Dinitrophenolic herbicides
  • Quats and other herbicides
  • Insect repellents
  • Fungicides
  • Rodenticides
  • Fumigants
  • Disinfectants

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and Semi Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOC) are found in chemicals that are used for purposes like dry cleaning, bleaching etc. and various other industrial as well as day to day activities at home.  These normally vaporize in air but may be dissolved in water as well, even contaminating ground water. Since many of these VOCs and SVOCs are toxic and can pose health risk or ecological concerns; it is necessary to test water and beverages to ensure that they are devoid of VOC and SVOC.

At VIMTA, we perform testing for VOC and SVOC using GC-MS purge & trap technology in accordance with USEPA regulatory standards and guidelines.

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are class of chemical compounds which are present naturally in crude oil, gasoline, coal etc. and are also produced by inefficient burning of fossil fuels and garbage. PAHs are not only a concern for environment but also pose a risk for human health. Primarily these are considered to be carcinogenic and genotoxic and associated with incidences of lung, skin and bladder cancer.

It is therefore essential to test water and beverages for presence of PAH to determine their level of concentration and estimate potential health hazards. At VIMTA, we offer a comprehensive range of testing for identification and quantification of a large number of PAHs in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) are highly toxic industrial compounds and are known to cause several adverse health reactions in unborn, newborn, children and adults. These may be widely present in environment and water. Primarily these are associated with neurological or developmental problems and which may arise from prolonged or repeated exposure to even small amount of PCBs and are also known to cause many types of cancers.

It is therefore essential to test water and beverages for presence of PCBs to determine their level of concentration and estimate potential health hazards. At VIMTA, we offer a comprehensive range of testing for identification and quantification of a large number of PCBs in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Routine hematology and coagulation testing is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, advanced hematological tests are a performed using a variety of techniques including flow cytometry and electrophoresis based methods and are available from Monday to Friday, 7 am – 5 pm.
